St. Anthony Medical Campus
The next step in bringing the new St. Anthony Medical Campus to Lakewood was reached when Centura Health, St. Anthony Central Hospital and Catholic Health Initiatives broke ground for the new medical facility on land formerly belonging to the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Denver Federal Center.
The 50-acre parcel where St. Anthony Medical Campus will be built is located on the western most boundary of the Federal Center, between West 6th Avenue on the north and West Alameda Avenue on the south. The hospital’s new address will be 11600 West 2nd Place, Lakewood, CO 80255. Twenty nine of the 50 acres are planned for development.
St. Anthony Medical Campus will be a replacement hospital for the 16-acre site of the current St. Anthony Central in Denver. St. Anthony West is projected to be fully completed in late 2011. Both hospitals will operate until St. Anthony West is complete.
The land sale transaction between the GSA, City of Lakewood, St. Anthony Central Hospital and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) took place on Sept. 19. The GSA sold 65 acres of the Federal Center site to the City of Lakewood in the largest sale of federal land in GSA’s Rocky Mountain Region. In turn, St. Anthony Central Hospital has purchased 50 acres, RTD the remaining 15, from the City for the same amount.
“We are delighted to be Lakewood’s first hospital,” said Bob Wallace, Administrator, Outreach Services at St. Anthony Central and project manager for the new hospital. “The City, the business community, and our new neighbors have been very welcoming and we are exited to have the opportunity to serve them.”
The new St. Anthony Medical Campus will include all current services and offer Centers of Excellence in:
• Neurology and Neurosurgical services
• Women’s services
• Cardiology
• Orthopedics
The total local estimated economic impact to Lakewood upon completion of the new St. Anthony is $284 million annually (estimated*). 2,415 estimated** jobs will be created by the hospital in Lakewood. (Source: Lewin Group).
